It's a slice of life/Romance comic about Layla, a 20 year old waitress, who decides one day to form a band on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. In the band she has Sophie, Dylan, and Kichiro. The comic simply goes into the lives of these characters, their journey as a band, and the relationships they have between each other and other friends/family members.
ETHINC BACKGROUND: Japanese
VOCAL PITCH: Medium - High
Hana is an over achieving teenage girl from Japan. She never learned how to take risks in life due to the way her parents sheltered her, and wants to prove herself to her father that she can take over the company instead of her older brother, KIKO. She has a complicated relationship with her brother. She's clearly harbors jealousy for him, but still manages to show love and affection towards him. Wanting to know what her brother was up to on vacation, she tracks him down with a private investigator, heads over to Hawaii, and decides to stay for the summer as well. Upon meeting his new found friends, Hana instantly gains a crush on Layla's teenage cousin, Miguel, and a new side of her is shown. Finding this as an opportunity to get closer to Miguel, while perfecting her skills as a business associate, she declares herself to being the band's manager. Unlike KIKO, Hana embraces the fact that she is a girl with money and power but still has a lot to learn about herself and the purpose of living.
0 "What the heck did you do?! Your hair!! It's- It's.... Dad's gonna kill you~"
1 In this line, Hana is gushing over Miguel romantically. "Oh wow! You're so... Cool"
2 "What I understand is that all of you need a manager, and unlike my soon to be superior brother, I am just the girl for the job. You can thank me later! Or now if you want"
ETHINC BACKGROUND: Hispanic
Jasmine is the lead singer in the rival group who competes against Layla's band. She iis the type of girl who needs to step back and rethink the way she treats others. My main inspiration could be Cleo De Nile from Monster High. She carries a huge ego and pays a ton of attention to how she looks in public and social media. Her goal for majority in the plot is that she has to be better than Layla and beat her. Layla is obviously of her intentions due to how two faced Jasmine is. To Layla, Jasmine is just another one of her friends. Jasmine's jealousy also goes for her boyfriend, Eli. She hates how he gets a ton of attention from girls when they're on stage and off. She takes this frustration on him not realizing it's simply isn't his fault. Her best friend is Eli's younger sister, Rain. Jasmine unintentionally bosses Rain to do whatever she says, but thinks of her as a sister. She admires Rain's intelligence and confidence as a person.
COME BACK HERE!!!!
1 Seriously now? Y'all think this is some kinda joke or something? How pathetic.
2 BRING IT ON, BIG FOOT! I've been waiting for this all throughout high school.
ETHINC BACKGROUND: Greek & African - American
VOCAL PITCH: High - Child like (But too not annoying and cutesy)
Michelle can be described as a wild child. While she can be bratty and somewhat of a diva, she can also be a little sweetheart. She's honestly bit of a handful. Her and her older sister, Sophie, are constantly fighting and messing with each other. She treats Layla more like a loving sister than Sophie, simply because Layla lets her get away with murder. A small running gage is that people often confuse Layla of being her mom/sister due to the two of them being able to share a similar skin ton while Emily/Sophie don't. While not the perfect child, she does develop more she does mature over the next few years.
0 Daddy, when can I get piercings??
1 You're so mean! You never let me do anything when we're alone together! I'm telling, Mommy!
2 Ew! That's so gross! MOM!!!!
ETHNIC BACKGROUND: Greek
Emily is Sophie's birth mother. She's cheerful and loving. Despite her age, due to her looks and size, she appears very young to others. When she works at her and her husband's family cafe, she is often flirted with by male customers. While she's obvious to the fact, she always has Danny behind her protecting her from said customers. She loves her family very much, and wishes for everyone's happiness and success. One thing she will have to overcome, however, is her older daughter's attitude towards Danny and Michelle. She hopes that one day she can finally accept them as part of the family and be more involved in their life as well as them in hers.
0 Welcome to the Katsi Cafe! I hope you all are having a very Katsi Day!
1 Sweetie, take this soup upstairs to your sister, please. The poor thing has been sick all morning.
2 Danny! Oh you big teddy bear! Come here!!
ETHNIC BACKGROUND: Korean
Bo Young is a successful Korean model/actress. Ironically, Layla and Sophie's mom have been big fans of her Korean dramas from the past. Just like Kichiro & Hana, Bo Young comes from a wealthy family with power. As a business strategy, her mother and the sibling's father arrange the marriage between her and Kichiro since both were little kids. While Kichiro is super against and indifferent to the marriage, especially after meeting Layla, Bo is determined to becoming the perfect wife for Kichiro. Instead of hating Layla and being a bitch towards her, she actually admires Layla for her spirit and talent and befriends her.
0 Kichiro-Kun~I bought these necklaces for you. They were on sale and I think they would look super cute on you.
1 I wished he was more excited about it like I am.... All my life, I dreamed of us getting married... Guess that's just my solo, huh....
2 Oh my god! Look at you! You're actually wearing a dress. And it's cute!!
ETHINC BACKGROUND: Vietnamese-American
VOCAL PITCH: Medium
Matthew Lee works at the new music shop that just opened in town. He is super knowledgeable about guitars and equipment. His grandpa is often never around so he has to always hold the fort for him. He's a pretty cool guy to be around. The band often comes by the store to bring him his favorite cake and buy equipment. While he gets close to Layla as a friend, he slowly releases that he has a crush on her.
You must be Layla's very tall lady friend.
1 Nah, the old man's just didn't want to go to work today. He says it's his back. I think he's just slackin off.
2 WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!
DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THIS GUITAR COSTS? Gramps, gonna kill me!
ETHNIC BACKGROUND: Polynesian & Caucasian
The Maury Twins are a pair of brothers who live in the town of Haleiwa with the rest of the gang. Almost everytime you see them, they are always working a different job. They are a rambunctious pair of pranksters who always get themselves in trouble wherever they go. When they both come across Hana, they become her henchmen and get a stable job of being the band's security/roadies.

Kaleb: I can't believe they fell for that!

GENDER: Transgender (He/Him/They)
ETHINC BACKGROUND: Cuban-American
VOCAL PITCH: Medium - Low (Joseph speaks in a constant monotone tone of voice when he speaks, same as his girlfriend, Rain)
Joseph Perez is a female to male transgender individual. When he turned 18, he managed to save up enough money and moved out of his parents house and live on his own. Joseph is what you would call an eccentric artist. While his girlfriend, Rain, works on costumes and attire; Joseph spends his day doing extravagant hairstyles for tourtist and locals on the island. Their dream together is to one day own a joined Boutique & Salon. He can be sarcastic and tends to make jokes from time to time, but at the heart of his character he is a loving supportive human being. Rain's best friend, Jasmine, irritates him like crazy because she has been seen in the pass to be very bossy and controlling over Rain. Joseph is willing to go out of his way for people, but at the very front of that he has his boundaries and standards to live by.
0 You smell of desperation...
1 Is that supposed to be a trick question?

ETHNIC BACKGROUND: Puerto Rican & Polynesian
VOCAL RANGE: Medium or Medium-High
Miguel is Layla's younger cousin. He is a hot heated teenager who's lazy, temperamental, and rude. Miguel can be very sarcastic and tends to mess with others like Dylan and Sophie, although Sophie is out of affection, Miguel soon develops an idolization for Kichiro. Sometime in the story, he is sent back to Hawaii from New York to now be taken care of by Layla as his guardian. Something Layla discovers about Miguel is that he is actually a very passionate writer and enjoys writing songs and poems. While hesitant at first, Miguel eventually agrees to become the band's song writer, which is good because Layla and the others had no talent in making songs. In the story, Miguel battles his inner demons, his unspoken attraction to Layla's best friend, Sophie, and being chased by the crazy in love Hana Yamamoto.
0 Sup, cuz. Looks like I'm crashing with you now.
