Auditions for our Spring 2022 productions: The Thing They Love "Setting: 1933, New York City. During the Depression, down-and-out rumrunner Rabbit and his sibling Maggs befriend a wealthy queer couple in a lavender marriage. Maggs, inspired by the wife's involvement in drag king culture, begins living as a man and finds work as a musician, while Rabbit enters a relationship with the husband and rekindles a dalliance with the wife's girlfriend. Maggs is determined to use this new start to find their younger siblings, who were sent to orphanages after their mother's death, but Rabbit's infidelity puts their family, old and new, in jeopardy." Into The Woods "The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word." Audition Requirements: 1. Perform 1 one-minute dramatic monologue (memorized) from a published play. 2. Perform 1 one-minute comedic monologue (memorized) from a published play. 3. Perform 32 bars of music from a classic or contemporary musical.* (Please note: You may choose a musical selection from a Sondheim production. Please avoid selections from rock/pop musicals. Please bring one copy of readable sheet music (no lead sheets) for the accompanist. The sheet music should already be in your key- no transposition, please.) 4. Provide two copies of your theatre resume and two copies of a recent headshot/ photograph- one for each director. 5. Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to your audition timeslot so you have time to fill out your audition form. All participants must wear a face mask that covers their mouth and nose for the duration of the event.
