Audition Description

Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play is an imaginative dark comedy that propels us forward nearly a century, following a new civilization stumbling into its future. After the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors share a campfire and begin to piece together the plot of "The Simpsons" episode "Cape Feare" entirely from memory. 7 years later, this and other snippets of pop culture (sitcom plots, commercials, jingles, and pop songs) have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. 75 years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created. A paean to live theater, and the resilience of Bart Simpson through the ages, Mr. Burns is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.

  • A Simpsons expert. An apocalypse survivor from New York who finds himself at the campsite with other survivors, and steps into the role of rallying the group's spirits throughout Act I. A bit goofy, the type who does the voices when he tells stories. His wife is missing. Anticipated doubling: Homer (Act II + Act III), and may sing as part of the Act III opening "Shades of Springfield" Chorus as well.
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Male
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • A Simpsons fan. An apocalypse survivor from Baltimore who has recently joined the group. Very opinionated, the type who could pinpoint every minor inaccuracy in the film adaptation of her favorite book. Anticipated doubling: Marge (Act II + Act III), and may sing as part of the Act III opening "Shades of Springfield" Chorus as well.
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Female
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • An apocalypse survivor whose home was destroyed. She is sweet and well-intentioned, often serves as the moral compass for the group, and puts on a brave face when she can. Tries very hard to fit in–was never a big Simpsons fan before all this, but has enough basic familiarity with the show to follow along with the group. Anticipated doubling: Lisa + 2nd FBI Agent (Act II) and Lisa (Act III).
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Female
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • A stoic survivor–the type who may have served in the military, and was an avid outdoorsman before everything happened. Very protective over the group's safety, he seems to have a big heart beneath his hard exterior. Says little but hears everything. Anticipated doubling: Bart (Act II) and Scratchy (Act III). Will sing as part of the Act III opening "Shades of Springfield" Chorus as well.
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Male
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • Role #5 - Colleen

A survivor who suffered an especially traumatic experience before being taken in by the group. By Act II, she has taken over leadership of the group, and is serving as their performance troupe's director–she seems the no-nonsense type who is comfortable running a room, someone who may have been a lawyer, or a manager at a prestigious company, before all this. Anticipated doubling: Itchy (Act III). Will sing as part of the Act III opening "Shades of Springfield" Chorus as well.
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Female
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • Role #6 - Gibson

A newcomer to the group in Act I. Seems a bit strange, and sometimes anxious and paranoid. A fan of Gilbert & Sullivan musicals and a second-hand Simpsons fan (by way of an ex-girlfriend)–the type of person who was into amateur theatre and did well at trivia. Anticipated doubling: Loving Husband + Sideshow Bob (Act II) and Mr. Burns (Act III). Will sing as part of the Act III opening "Shades of Springfield" Chorus as well.
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Male
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • Role #7 - Quincy

A survivor that has more recently joined the group when we pick up with them in Act II. Smart, attractive, confident, and quick–she is a compelling performer, brought into the group for her acting talent, to help the group's troupe be more competitive in their new reality. Anticipated doubling: Business Woman + 1st FBI Agent (Act II) and Bart (Act III).
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Female
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • The Chorus Leader of the Greek Chorus in Act III. She serves as the voice of story-teller and conscience. A keeper of knowledge, who brings an epic stage presence and reverence to the Act III performance.
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Female
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 20 - 49
    Expiration Date: Dec 15, 2019
  • Role #9 - Ensemble

These performers would perform as part of the Greek Chorus in Act III, portraying various archetypal roles inspired by Simpsons characters, with Nedra as their Chorus Leader. Additional musical talents (beatboxing, playing instruments, etc.), and/or previous dance/movement background would be a major plus for this role.
Seeking 10 talent(s) for this role
    Talent specs:
    Gender: Male, Female
    Ethnicity: Any
    Age: 18 - 60
