It's a busy day in the Blake household... the day of both Katherine's rehearsal dinner and her daughter Ellie's chance to take part in the social event of the year, "The Hunt," a scavenger hunt coordinated by the coolest guy at school, Adam. When the overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter. This new musical, Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, features a book by Bridget Carpenter - the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, "Friday Night Lights" and "Parenthood" - and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey - the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of Next to Normal.
Auditioners should prepare a 1-minute cut from a Disney/rock/pop musical that demonstrates vocal and acting range. Please bring clearly marked sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. No CDs/tapes/a cappella auditions allowed.
Auditions will also consist of cold readings from the script.
Each session will start and end promptly. Please arrive by the start of your session. If you must arrive later than the session start, please advise the Director, Ron Giddings, in advance at the show email.
For efficiency, please download and complete the "Actor Audition Form" from the Downloads page of our website under Forms. Please bring the completed form with your resume or list of experience, if desired, and a headshot or recent photo. If you do not have a photo, one will be taken at sign-in.
At all Colonial Players facilities you will be required to wear a face mask. Masks may be removed only during solo vocal auditions.
Audition seating will maintain appropriate physical distancing. For enhanced safety in our spaces, CP has upgraded all of our air filtration systems.
If you arrive while another session is still in progress, you may be asked to wait in your vehicle until your audition time, in order to preserve optimal distancing.
