Our academy seeks an experienced and innovative vocal music teacher and musical director to become a full-time member of the community.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Teach vocal music, direct large choir, vocal ensembles, and individual vocal students
• Act as musical director for our annual musical production
• Teach music history
• Teach acting, musical performance and other related classes
• Direct the Fall Play
• Advise a small cohort of students
• Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends
• Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices
• Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA's curriculum
• Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership
QUALIFICATIONS
• A bachelor's degree in music, musical theater, musical direction, education or a closely related field; a graduate degree in vocal music or education is strongly preferred
• 3-5 years (or more) of teaching high school music and musical direction
• Multi-instrumentalist who can teach piano and operate the audio recording studio is preferred
• Current pedagogical practices which may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning
• Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department
• Facility with Mac OS, SMARTboard technologies, Microsoft365, Google apps, and other music education-enhancing products is preferred
• Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues
• Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly
• Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people
