Xavier, a college student, is searching for faith, after being crippled by student debt, and a death in his family. He begins to experience what he thinks are hallucinations, visions of an X shaped light, after a bizarre encounter with a woman at a coffee shop. Shaken by this, he goes for a walk, finding the woman, now dressed in a cloak, who runs from him when he tries to question her. He follows her into a fenced field, in which a group of people cloaked in the same garment as the woman, are preparing for a ritual. Xavier reluctantly takes part in said ritual, and "has his third eye opened" and is able to gaze upon the grandeur of what he had visions about. The X.
