Audition Description

In the weeks before the election of Donald Trump, a young, liberal, Iraqi Muslim immigrant struggles to find her footing in an American neighborhood of well-to-do conservative Iraqi Christians. Niran longs to become a modern-day Enheduanna, the ancient Mesopotamian priestess, writer and poet. But Niran's mother has other ideas—like an arranged marriage, which should stop Niran from making social media posts about her personal faith. Battling her family's fears of deprivation and demands of loyalty to traditions, Niran must find the courage to break free and follow her dream regardless of the consequences.

  • Role #1 - Mike Abraham Levi

is Labeeba's social worker, although he's older than her and could qualify for welfare benefits, he'd rather work and finish the paperwork. He swears in Yiddish. A thin Jew who has shrunk several inches in his old age, he refuses to buy a smaller suit, and wears a kippah (Yamaka) not out of religious observance but to keep his bald head warm. His spry wife of 60 years, (she's 78) kicks him out of the house every morning and that's fine with him. Language: Fluent Yiddish. No accent otherwise.

Easily irritable, she's obsessed with food and keeps their dual-sided refrigerator and freezer stocked to overflowing.
