Are you a medical or health professional or student or a practitioner of health practices? Are you passionate about changing medicine and indigenous rights? Are you a dancer with a traditional dance background? We need you. We use traditional dance to narrate stories of women in medicine. Why traditional dance? There is an inherent healing in traditional dance performances–in the music, lyrics, dance gestures, religious rites, sacred food, and cultural storytelling offered to a connected community audience. Empowering one woman in a community to see her artistic culture as an intrinsic tool for health improvement, we believe, will form the seed of change needed to improve health for indigenous communities. This project also provides an immersive experience for healthcare professionals-in-training to understand their patients and themselves through telling stories through their bodies. We are currently looking to have more choreographers from diverse health and dance backgrounds to help us bridge stories of injustice in the medical system with stories of mythology. If you are interested in creating pieces on medical care, human rights in medicine, global healthcare, indigenous rights, environmental justice, gun violence prevention, or any other health-related topic using traditional dance, please join us. We need choreographers to choreograph 1-2 pieces over one year on any blend of issues in healthcare with stories sharing similar themes in mythology. You can do this in any studio or outdoor space. All dances should be recorded and sent to us to upload onto our online platform by the end of the appointment year.
