Audition Description

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.

Please arrive promptly at the start of the audition time. You do not need to attend both nights. Auditionees will be reading from the script.

For musicals, prepare a song you feel confident in singing. Try to select a song that is the same style as the show for which you are auditioning. (Melodic songs like show tunes, church music, folk songs, etc. are better than jazzy pop songs.) Bring sheet music if possible; no recorded accompaniment.

There may be dancing or improvisation as part of the audition. Please dress in clothes you can move in. Please, no flip-flops. Please look carefully at the performance dates. Being in a show at Theatre Statesville requires a great time commitment. If you will only take a larger or smaller role because of your own time concerns, or if you are auditioning for just the experience, you are Welcome!--but please let the director know your intentions.
