If you took the time to sit through the end credits in X-Men: Days of Future Past, you would have been pleasantly surprised to see how they will ultimately set the stage for the upcoming story line to the X-Men franchise. This is nothing new, as the same tactic was put forth during the end credits of The Wolverine movie which paved the way for the X-Men Days of Future Past plot.
In the end credits, the viewer is transported to Egypt during the time of the pyramids. A mysterious entity by the name of En Sabah Nur, stands before thousands of people chanting his name while in the midst of building the massive pyramids. A shadow of the four Horsemen can be seen in the background.
For comic book fans, this is none other than the powerful mutant, Apocalypse.
Born En Sabah Nur, which means “The First One” in Akkaba, is considered to be the earliest mutant on Earth having possessed the very first mutant X-gene. As a result, he is recognizable by his gray skin and blue lips. He possesses abilities similar to that of the mutant Mystique, where he can control every molecule in his body along with the ability to project and absorb energy. His other mutant abilities include: telepathy, technopathy, and telekinesis.
The four Horsemen in the background are none other than The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. In the comic book universe, these four horsemen are usually mutants or metahumans who have been brainwashed and recruited by Apocalypse to do his bidding. Other famous heroes in the Marvel Universe have also fell victim to his bidding such as Wolverine, Banshee, Gambit and even the Hulk.
These four horsemen are mostly known by their names of Death, Famine, Pestilence, and War.
It has been confirmed by screenwriter Simon Kinberg, that he will be portraying the upcoming villain in the next X-Men storyline entitled X-Men: Apocalypse.
Even if Apocalypse had been tapped as the villain for the upcoming movie, Brian Singer has yet to confirm as to what role the villain will have in the next movie and what the storyline will be.
