David Banner, is an American rapper, record producer & occasional actor. David Banner was born in Jackson, Mississippi graduating from Southern Varsity. David Banner started his music career as a member of the rap couple, Crooked Lettaz before going solo in 2k with Them Firewater Boyz, Vol. One and signed to Universal Records in 2003. With Universal, David Banner released 4 albums : Mississippi : The Album (2003), MTA2 : Baptized in Unclean Water (2004), Certificated (2005), and the best Story Ever Told (2008). Crump's stage name David Banner is taken from the lead personality of the TV series The Incredible Hulk. With a few of his chums, David Banner sent some demo tapes to Jackson radio station WJMI, whose operations executive honored them. After forming the pair Crooked Lettaz in 1999 with rapper Kamikaze, David Banner released his solo first album Them Firewater Boyz, Vol. One in two thousand.
Released under the independent label Large Face Records, the album sold about seven thousand copies. Then David Banner's single "Like a Pimp" became a radio hit it attracted heavy label interest towards the artist. After considering the offers, David Banner and executive Scott Johnson made a decision to sign with Universal Records subsidiary SRC Records as the pair were conscious of CEO Steve Rifkind's successful history with Loud Records. David Banner released his first big label album Mississippi : The Album in 2003 with SRC and Universal. Mississippi included the hit single, "Like a Pimp," featuring Lil Flip. "Like a Pimp" topped at forty eight on the Billboard hot hundred chart, fifteen on the Hot RB / Hiphop Songs chart, and ten on the Hot Rap Tracks chart. He released the follow-up album the same year called MTA2 : Baptized in Dirty Water, yielding "Crank It Up," featuring Static Major. David Banner produced T.I.'s 2004 single "Rubberband Man," which reached thirty on the hot hundred, fifteen on the RB chart, and eleven on the rap chart. In 2005, he released another album, Authorized. Its first single was "Ain't Got Nothing", featuring Sorcery & Lil Boosie, followed by his 2nd single, "Play," which reached seven on the hot hundred chart, five on the RB chart, and 3 on the rap chart. The 3rd single was "Touching," featuring Jazze Pha ; "Touching" reached 54 on the RB chart.
On July fifteen, 2008, David Banner released his 5th studio album, the best Story Ever Told. His first single is "9mm," featuring Akon, Lil Wayne, & Snoop Dogg. David Banner produced his next 2 singles : "Get Like Me," featuring Chris Brown and Yung Joc, and "Shawty Say," featuring Lil Wayne. "Get Like Me" reached 16 on the hot hundred, seven on the RB chart, and two on the rap chart.
He's the creator of the theme song to the game Saints Row. He worked with gospel pair Mary Mary in Superfriend. He's credited with writing, making and organizing an original song ( with vocals by Blackstreet's Kermit Quinn ) for Gatorade's 2010 "Gatorade Has Evolved" TV commercial. 2010 will see the release of the first fruits of a much forecasted collusion between David Banner and hip hop producer 9th Wonder. The couple fixed up to form an album titled "Death Of A Pop Star," which was released on December twenty-one, 2010.
In a chat with HitQuarters, 9th Wonder discussed the muse behind the album pronouncing, "we presumed that in a number of ways the demise of Michael Jackson meant the demise of black music..."

In 2007, he played the personality of Mo, in the movie This Xmas. David Banner also starred as Jay, a gang leader from the hood in Stomp the Yard two : Homecoming. In 2010 he played Bosch in the film The experiment. In Nov 2006, David Banner got given a Visionary Award by the nation's Black Congress of the state Lawmaking council in acknowledgment of his work after Hurricane Katrina. On Sep twenty-five, 2007, David Banner gave evidence in front of Congress at a hearing about African-American media stereotypes, which was aired nationally on C-SPAN2. He talked about his words and whether they were suitable or stereotypical. David Banner disagreed that his words explain the agony blacks go thru. In his opening statement, David Banner was applauded by a few attending for asserting, "I will admit there are some issues in hip-hop but it's only a mirrored image of what's happening in our society. Hip-hop is sick because America is sick."
