About Me:

Short Resume: Constance Hauman has recorded fo Teldec,Chandos, Sony, Koch and Milken Archives; she can be heard as Kate Pinkerton in Fr?d?ric Mitterrand's critically acclaimed film, Madame Butterfly. Miss Hauman is a 2008 recipient of an Alumni Merit Award from Northwestern University. Constance is credited with having the only live recording of Alban Berg's Lulu (Chandos) in the title role; recorded in Copenhagen 1996 at the Queen of Denmark's Castle. This historic production took place in the Royal Riding Stables and brought the Danish Radio Orchestra, the Groengard Teatre and an international cast together to honor Copenhagen as the Cultural City of Europe for 1996.

In 2003?2004, Hauman sang the World Premiere of Alice/Renee in Olga Neuwirth and Elfriede Jelinek's stage adaptation of David Lynch's film Lost Highway. This production was a special event to honor the city of Graz, Austria as the Cultural City of Europe 2003. Performances continued in Basel Switzerland and the Cit? de la Musique in Paris.
Constance Hauman is the creator, writer, producer, performer of Exiles in Paradise, a documentary film/live performance recital with string quartet which spans the history, lives and hollywood stories of Eastern Europe's exiled composers in Los Angeles from 1932?1949. Exiles opened up the Jewish Museum in Berlin on September 10, 2001; it has been performed at the 92nd St.Y. NYC; Austrian Embassy, Washington D.C.; and in 2006 for a run of performances at the Falcon Theater (Garry Marshall) in Burbank, CA.

Leonard Bernstein handpicked Constance Hauman to fill in on 24 hrs. notice to replace an ailing June Anderson in the only concerts where he conducted his operetta Candide himself. This performance catapulted her to over 150 performances of Cun?gonde in Candide over a 6 year period.

Musician Information: Constance Hauman rose to international prominence when Leonard Bernstein chose her as a last-minute replacement for an ailing June Anderson, assuming the role of Cunegonde in Candide on twenty-four hour notice, for the momentous occasion of the composer conducting the renowned operetta with the London Symphony Orchestra. As a result, Miss Hauman went on to perform Candide in a four-month engagement at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles (Gordon Davidson directing), a new production for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and the first French translation on a tour of France. She subsequently has been heard as a soloist with orchestras around the world and in the United States in concerts featuring the aria \\\"Glitter and Be Gay.\\\" In addition to having been one of the most sought interpreters of the fiendishly difficult role of Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss\\\'s Ariadne auf Naxos, Ms. Hauman is perhaps most acclaimed for the title role in Alban Berg\\\'s Lulu, which can be heard on the Chandos label. This historic live recording from the Queen of Denmark\\\'s castle in Copenhagen in 1996 has recently been reissued. Miss Hauman went on to do new productions of Lulu with the Flemish Opera and the L\\\'Op?ra nationale de Paris. Her recording of the role of Alice/Renee in Olga Neuwirth\\\'s ground breaking opera Lost Highway, based on David Lynch\\\'s film of the same title, was awarded France\\\'s Diaspon D\\\'Or for best new recording in 2007, and her performance in the stage productions in Graz, Austria and Basel, Switzerland received international accolades. She has performed her original one woman multimedia recital \\\"Exiles in Paradise\\\", a recital/documentary film of classical composers who landed in Los Angeles during the Second World War, to standing ovations for the opening of the Jewish Museum in Berlin, at the 92nd St. Y in New York, and for a limited run at Garry Marshall\\\'s theater (The Falcon), in Burbank, California. Miss Hauman\\\'s versatility has taken her to important international concert halls and opera companies including the Teatre Champs Elys?es (Paris), L\\\'Op?ra de Nice, L\\\'Op?ra de Marseille, L\\\'Op?ra de Rhin, L\\\'Op?ra de Tours, L\\\'Op?ra de Liege, Covent Garden (London), English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Teatro Communale, Rome Opera, De Vlaamse Opera, Canadian Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Dallas Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, New York City Opera, Miami Opera, as well as the Chicago Lyric Opera. She has appeared as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, London Symphony, VARA Radio Orchestra, Radio France, Minnesota Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, New Japan Philharmonic, Danish Radio Orchestra, Orquestra National Lisboa, and Berlin Radio Orchestra. The many festivals she has performed with include the Spoleto Festivals in Italy and South Carolina, the Hong Kong Festival, the New York Festival of Song, the Berkshire Theater Festival, the Ahmanson Festival Season in Los Angeles and the Steirishe Herbst in Austria. Constance Hauman was born in Ohio and graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago, which has honored her with the Biener School of Music Alumni Merit Award for 2008.
