Uptown Players announces auditions for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, written by Christopher Durang. In this winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Masha incites a madcap family reunion complete with all the comic genius that only Christopher Durang can deliver. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha. The production is under the direction of B.J. Cleveland.
The following roles are open to both equity and non-equity actors. There are two equity contracts available.
Callbacks will take place on Sunday, November 10 at 7pm. A headshot and resume is required at auditions. Auditions will consist of reading from the script.
Sides will be posted at www.uptownplayers.org by Monday, November 4. A copy of the script is available for members at S.T.A.G.E. or by appointment at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.
Rehearsals will begin the week of January 20, 2014. The production runs February 14 through March 9, 2014 at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.
