There Goes The Bride
Written by Ray Cooney and John Chapman
Timothy Westerby is overworked, underpaid, stressed-out, and his daughter is getting married in what he thinks is an overly-lavish and overly-expensive ceremony. Timothy is ripe for a nervous breakdown and, on the morning of the wedding, he has one! It takes the form of Polly, the most gorgeous girl who just wants to give herself to Timothy the pity is she is imaginary. Suffice it to say that none of the characters, are equipped to deal with the double stress of both preparing for the wedding and dealing with a father, who is suddenly enraptured by a "girl" no one else can even see.
The play has all the standard elements of a Ray Cooney farce that we have come to expect: mistaken/assumed identities, confused characters and tale spinning that spins out of control. "There Goes the Bride," is as bubbly and frothy as champagne.
