Auditions for The 39 Steps
Three men and one woman are being sought to play multiple roles.
The 39 Steps mixes a Hitchcock film classic with a spy novel and a dash of zaniness. It is a fast-paced blend of acting and frenetic stage craft filled with puns, mysteries, laughter and suspense.
The plays concept calls for the entirety of the 1935 adventure film to be performed with a small cast of four.
One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay; an actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements; and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children, and even the occasional inanimate object.
Show dates are Dec. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15. A script is on reserve at the Carbondale Public Library for those who would like to audition.
