The Harbor Playhouse welcomes community participation and encourages new people to audition for productions. Bring your talent, your confidence, and a great attitude. We look forward to putting you center stage.
Each actor will be given a number. When auditioning for a play, actors will be asked to read pre-selected excerpts from the script. Some directors also incorporate acting exercises to measure ability to follow direction.
Familiarize yourself with the show and characters prior to the audition. The internet is loaded with resources for finding plots, listening to soundtracks, and seeing videos of past productions.
For Musicals, prepare and memorize 16 bars of a song of your choice. A "bar" is a measure (the vertical lines on a page of music). When selecting a song, consider the style of show you are auditioning for.
Remember to bring:
Dance or closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops, sandals, or jewelry that impedes movement.)
Sheet Music for the pianist.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Based on the beloved novel by Harper Lee, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD follows 6-year-old Scout Finch, her older brother, Jem, and their widowed father, Atticus, a lawyer appointed by the court to defend a black man accused of raping a young white woman. Join us for a powerful theatrical experience and important lessons about racial tolerance, class, and courage, as well as an individual's power to do right in the face of overwhelming wrong. This is an experience for the whole family that will get mothers, fathers, and children talking about the power of family, empathy and doing the right thing.
