Directors Steve Martin and Neil Radtke have announced audition information for Bus Stop.
In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus out of Kansas City pulls up at a cheerful roadside diner. All roads are blocked, and four or five weary travelers are going to have to hole up until morning. Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse, is the passenger with the most to worry about. Shes been pursued and kidnapped by a twenty-one-year-old cowboy with a ranch and romantic methods of a headstrong bull. Other stories abound in this classic "slice of life" play that is a romantic and funny portrayal of Midwestern life, mid-twentieth century.
Actors will be asked to read from the script. Actors auditioning for the role of Cherie will be asked to sing 16 bars of a 1950s song without accompaniment. The actor who plays Virgil must be able to play or learn to play guitar.
Actors are encouraged to read the full script before auditions. It can be checked out from the Civic Theatre office
Actors are asked to arrive as early as possible to the start time and stay for as much of the two hours as possible. Please bring a calendar to note availability for rehearsals as well as conflicts. Rehearsals will be Sundays, 2:30-5:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Bus Stop will be performed Friday, January 17 through Saturday, February 1 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday shows will begin at 2:30 p.m.
