A Rock Opera. Following the form of a traditional Passion Play, this musical smash is loosely based on the Gospels account of the last week of the life of Jesus. Melting contemporary attitudes, iconic all usions to modern life, the heart-pounding beats and rhythmic ballads have made this show, recently revived on Broadway, a modern day classic.
Prepare for Auditions:
-Auditionees should prepare two pieces of music [16 bars each] that demonstrate vocal range. (You may only be asked to sing one but you should be prepared with two.)
-Both vocal selections should have a rock or soul feel to them.
-If you are called back for a specific character, you may be asked to prepare one of the character's songs from the Jesus Christ Superstar score, prepared in the correct key.
-Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. NO CDs or tapes, please. No singing a capella. (There is a large collection of sheet music available at the Central Library.)
-Due to time constraints, each auditionee may only be asked to sing one of his/her selections, but two should be prepared, so that the casting team has an option of hearing one or both.
-Auditions for most roles require a movement/dance audition. Please come prepared to move.
-Men & Women should bring character or jazz shoes and tap shoes if they own them. If you do not own dance shoes, please bring a hard sole, closed heel, and closed toe shoes for dance audition.
