Our first production of the 2014 Studio Series, featuring two one-acts by local playwright Steven Cleaveland
The Kill is a one act dark comedy in two scenes about a hitman named Jaquelyn who attempts to take out her target, but cant escape her own crime scene. After knocking out the man she thinks is Gregory Hyde, she gets stopped by Girl Scout, her mother, a delivery man, carpet cleaners and paramedics only to discover that shes killed Gregorys twin brother. After having to report this news to her mob, they give her an ultimatum that if the real Gregory isnt dead by 8 that night, theyre going to take her out.
Collapse is a one act tragicomedy about two miners trapped inside a flooded mine tunnel. Colby, an optimist, is confident that theyll both be rescued, while Barrett, a realist thinks they should prepare themselves for the possibility death. The two characters clash throughout the play as their worldviews come under fire by the other, which is only complicated as they contact someone on the surface and find a body drifting past. By the end we see how both Colby and Barrett are changed by their experience as they see the light of someone coming to find them.
Colby: A young optimistic miner
Barrett: A slightly older miner
Voice: Man on the surface
