Little Mary Sunshine is a musical that parodies old-fashioned operettas and musicals. It takes place in wilds of Colorado in the early 20th Century. The original Off-Broadway production premiered in 1959 in New York Citys East Village and ran for 1,143 performances.
For Goodness Sake Synopsis:
For Goodness Sake starring Fred & Adele Astaire, opened on March 21, 1922 on Broadway and ran for 4 months. It transferred to London a year later (as Stop Flirting and ran for over a year). After the Prince of Wales, the future Edward VIII, came to see it, the Astaires were propelled into the European artistic and social limelight. The original Broadway book was adapted for an English audience and several Gershwin songs were added. It is a very light farce. Songs: Ill Build a Stairway to Paradise; Oh, Gee, Oh, Gosh; The Whichness of Whatness. This show has not been seen in New York in 92 years.
America's Sweetheart Summary:
The show is a Hollywood satire. A young couple, Michael Perry and Geraldine March leave St. Paul, Minnesota for Hollywood determined to be silent-movie stars. Geraldine becomes a star but Michael doesnt. However, once talking films are introduced, the situation is reversed. Geraldine has a slight lisp, and now Michael, with a superb speaking voice to go with his good looks becomes the star. Of course, their professional ups and downs cloud their relationship but in the end ..
