The series focuses on a mother named Alicia, whose husband once the District Attorney for the City of Chicago who was imprisoned after his arrest for soliciting prostitutes along with many other scandalous legal infractions. In order provide for her family in her husband's absence, Alicia returns to her former profession as a litigator, after retiring over a decade earlier to become a full-time stay at home mom. Not only must she confront the many challenges that arise from her hiatus from practicing law, but she must also face her husband's sex scandal that follows her wherever she goes.
