Matheny Medical and Educational Center, a unique special hospital and school for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities, is seeking a:
Part Time * Arts Access Program * Philly Area
The Arts Access Program at Matheny Medical and Educational Center empowers severely disabled individuals to create art without boundaries. Through the use of innovative systems and techniques, participants take part in the visual, performing and literary arts, and regardless of their disability, are provided with the tools and materials needed to produce complete pieces of work. The successful candidate will report to the Arts Access Director/Performing Arts Coordinator, and act as a conduit between the Arts Access client and his/her creative work.
Assisting clients in the technical aspects of choreography and creative movement
Proactively researching current and new techniques, developments and methods specific to the dance discipline
Maintaining all relevant equipment, i.e. iPod, iPad, Sound Dock, etc
Remaining in current practice with own dance/choreography and professional pursuits
Assisting and/or performing on special trips, events, shows and other activities
Preparing documentation of all necessary data for clients
Maintaining backups of all notes and pertinent information for the archival of choreographic work
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
Developing rapport to effectively communicate with participants
Assisting in other areas of the Arts Access Program
To qualify for this unique performance-based position, you must have a High School Diploma/GED (Bachelors Degree preferred), background in Ballet or Modern Dance, and preferably, prior experience developing and implementing choreography. A true compassion for those in need, and excellent oral/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are also essential.
