Say it isn’t so! Famously private comedienne Ellen DeGeneres broke her usual silence about her personal life with wife, Portia de Rossi, to confront recent rumors. On Wednesday, December 11, the talk show host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show slammed stories about trouble in her marriage.
“You know, I don’t usually pay attention to tabloids and gossip magazines. Unless I’m standing in a long line at the grocery store. Then I devour them like pudding. No, I’m kidding. I don’t go to the grocery store,” DeGeneres said during her opening monologue. “So the other day I was at the hair salon getting these extensions put in. And there was a tabloids all over hair salons. That’s where they are, I guess…. (and on one of them) Portia and I were in the top right-hand corner. And I thought, ‘Oh that’s so sweet, they’re honoring us.’ But then I read the headline underneath. And it said: ‘Ellen and Portia Marriage Crumbles.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, what happened? They seemed so happy.’ And then I was like, ‘Wait, I’m Ellen.’ And I should know if that was happening.”
“There’s not one ounce of truth to any of it. I’m very happily married. In fact, the only thing we ever argue about is who loves who more. That is all. It really is true,” she continues. “I don’t know how many stories are out there about me. I don’t Google myself, I don’t pay attention to paparazzi pictures. I don’t wanna know. It’s like if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear, who cares who wore it better?”
And if there’s anything to announce? DeGeneres is clear on that topic, saying: “I’ll announce it here first.”
