Acting is a very interesting job. You get to work with different actors and film directors in the industry but don’t expect your career will always be on top.
Acting jobs are not a lifetime job, not even a regular one unless you are lucky enough to land a consistent TV show program that will last for a long time or be one of the most in demand and highest paid actor in the industry. But as an actor who loves his craft, what matters most is the joy and fulfillment you get from doing your job as an actor.
Now, let me ask this question; do you find fulfillment being an actor or are you still questioning your talent and wanting more? We will give you tips on how to gain happiness and be a fulfilled actor:
1. Love your job.
Loving your craft is very important; you should be passionate with what you are doing. Many people thought that acting is just a very simple job, but it’s not. Acting requires dedication and passion. Fulfillment is something you create; it isn’t something you just find.
2. Get Involve.
Don’t just devout yourself in one project, you can have a day job which involves charity works, music, advocacy or something else. Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Bono, Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Scarlet Johansson all have day jobs that give their time and money in hopes of creating a better world for all. They all have acting jobs but they all have the willingness to go beyond show business. Engaged in community activities in ways that are fulfilling. Being an artist you should have a broader view of the world, don’t just limit yourself in acting. Get involve. Be a Volunteer. Travel and have fun.
3. Take care of what you have.
This kind of business is stressful, so take time to relax. Find ways to engage yourself into spiritual growth (whatever that means for you) and physical exercise. You only have one body so don’t torture yourself because this will affect your performance that comes out from your body. This also includes your talent, if you think you can do better, you can do acting workshop, this will help you enhance your acting skills and discover techniques in acting.
4. Don’t just dream to be famous.
“I want to be an actor because I want to be famous!” What? Wait! Is your dream to be famous or is it to be an actor? Because it sounded like you just want to be famous. If you just dream to be famous, you’d be pursuing that career for a wrong reason. If you want to be an actor, don’t just dream of becoming famous because there is a lot better that being a famous. There are lots of actors that are not famous but they keep on doing what they love doing simply because they have passion in acting and entertaining people, not being glorified by people.
5. Love your own.
Appreciate what you do. Don’t be a copycat and complain what you can and can’t do. Don’t compare yourself with other actors; comparing yourself with your co-star is a sign of insecurity. You are a unique individual, so don’t expect to be like them. You are what you are and they can never be like you.
6. Be nice. Be true.
Being an actor doesn’t mean you have to act differently all the time in front or behind the camera. Don’t be too phony, you don’t want people will like you or hate you for what you are not, right? Just be true to yourself, get real!
Love your work is not about what you can have but what you can do for others.
